December 19, 1998 Protest Demonstration

Florida Splendid China, Kissimmee, Florida December 19, 1998

Part Two: The Walk Down Formosa Gardens Blvd.

The next striking sight was the condition of the walls around the park. Only five years earlier, these walls were a bright white and some attempt was made to cut and trim the grass between the wall and the sidewalk, this appears to be one of the shorcuts being taken to save money, because the walls are stained and moldy;
Unsightly stains and mold on the exterior walls of Florida Splendid China.
A sign of neglect, just like the sidewalk disappearing under the uncontrolled growth of weeds.
...sand and weeds occupy the spaces beyond the walls. This trend follows on the other side of the walls as well. On the backs of the exhibits where the security guards clammored to keep track of the protesters only five short years earlier, the weeds have grown into trees and if they tried now, they had better bring a machette and a helper.
Overgrown weeds behind exhibits
The rear of the exhibits were once lush green carpets, now they serve as habitat for wild animals.
We stopped and watched the afternoon Acrobat performance from beyond the wall. The three people in the audience seemed to need some company for the seven performers they were watching.

A Look from Gate #4 towards Formosa Gardens Blvd.
The scorched earth of neglect, notice clear pattern of park utility vehicle tires in sand/through weeds on the sidewalk.

Three locks, two locked locks are attached to open lock holding the chain.

The remains of park vehicles are stored here.
Do these vehicles represent a hazard to the environment ?
Have all the unsafe components (batteries, fluids, etc.) been disposed of properly?
The road along the back of the park looks like scorched earth. It has not seen a mower and the tracks of the golf-cart utility vehicles were seen in the sand on the sidewalk. The first gate along the back wall, once locked, has broken hinges and an open lock to hold the chain together. The closed, broken gate hides the remains of some other utility vehicles that have been cannabalised for parts, pushed together in a twisted pile of rusted metal.
