Letter to Mr. Yang

May 9, 1996

Mr. Guang Yang
Chairman, Splendid China
3000 Splendid China Blvd.
Kissimmee, Florida 34747

Dear Mister Yang,
Welcome to Florida.
To commemorate the seventh anniversary of the massacre of innocents in Tiananmen Square, we will be protesting at the entrance to your facility, Florida Splendid China on June 2, 1996. We wish to call attention to the plight of all the Chinese people and especially the Tibetan, Mongolian, and Uighur peoples that have been under the occupation of the People's Liberation Army forces and the Chinese Communist Party.
Living in a democratic country, we have strong feelings about the value of human rights including the freedom of speech and freedom of religion. We stand in solidarity with those people who desire self-determination and democracy and wish to commemorate the brave souls that protested and were murdered while they peaceably assembled in Beijing in 1989. While perhaps you and your staff are probably blameless, the Chinese Communist Party owners of Florida Splendid China are most certainly not.
We also have objections to the display of the 'minority' exhibits that are shown to be Chinese. The Potala Palace was built by Tibetans, as was the Tomb of Apak Hoja and the Id Kah Mosque built by the Uighur people. The identification of these structures as 'Chinese' is insulting and an attempt to whitewash history.
We wish to speak with you at your earliest convenience to discuss the removal or relabelling of these replicas.

Thank you for your time and attention,

Jack Churchward
